Every individual will have a different path when healing from sexual abuse, rape or assault, and as such, The Survivors Trust London offer a variety of support options to encompass individual needs.
Recovery Programmes are a type of support service for survivors that many people may be unfamiliar with, but they can provide an incredibly valuable opportunity for survivors to embark on a journey of healing.
What is a recovery programme?
A Recovery Programme or course is a structured series of sessions typically run over a period of 6-8 weeks.
This type of programme aims to help survivors better understand some of the difficulties they are facing as a result of their trauma and offer practical tools and techniques that they can use in their everyday lives.
Members of The Survivors Trust London offer their own unique recovery programmes or courses.
Although each will have a slightly different approach, depending on the style and aim of the course, supporting and empowering survivors to overcome the impact of their trauma is at the heart of all.
In some circumstances, a recovery programme approach may be incorporated into the counselling process, rather than as a separate programme.
What type of recovery programmes do The Survivors Trust London provide?
This may sound complicated, but a pyscho-educational course simply means receiving information in a supportive and therapeutic setting.
Into the Light are a London Member who have been running their pyscho-educational course for survivors for over 25 years.
Their course has a topic-based approach which focuses on different aspects of the impact of sexual abuse on us as adults.
This includes exploring the feelings of shame, anger, betrayal and confusion which can be felt by many survivors.
The exploration of these topics in a supportive environment provides the opportunity for reflection and better understanding, surrounding self- image, relationships, ways out of negative cycles of behaviour and ideas to move forwards towards a more hopeful future.
